Orbital Ring Fixture
Chris DeCamillis designed the Orbital Ring Fixture with modern engraving and stone setting in mind. Holds your rings in almost limitless positions and angles simplifying stone setting or engraving on rings with or without prongs. Allows you to hold rings with adequate clearance for gravers and burs.
Machined from 303 stainless. 4 collets made of solid brass with two expanding angles for a firm grip. Collets are split into 3 sections allowing easy holding of rings that are not perfectly round. Collets are designed to expand two sizes each so you won't be looking all over for different collets. The system comes with extra "O" rings in case one is broken or wears out. Each collet is clearly marked for easy reassembly.
Included with the tool are 4 collets that will allow holding rings from sizes
The brass density helps reduce vibration considerably, transferring more of the energy from your tools to the work. The fixture's design requires very little pressure to secure your workpiece.
Now also available - Nylon Collets. For people who would like to use softer collets with this fixture, Nylon Collets are also available as an additional option.
Each Nylon Collet can expand a full ring size. Collet Set includes 8 collets for ring sizes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
Vice pictured is not included.

I found it very stiff to tighten down the main adjustment lever. What I thought was fully tight, wasn't. I still moved a bit until I really put a harder turn on it. The allen screw for the wedge is too short. It should have been about an 8th or 4th of an inch longer. The base is too short to sit at the bottom of the standard GRS vise even with the top holders removed. I had to fabricate a piece of wood that was the same width to hold it steady on the bottom of the vise. If you were going to make it that short you should include in the kit something that would lift it up above the top edge of the engraving ball. If you don't put something under the fixture it will tilt when a little pressure is applied when engraving. I still use it but it is a little awkward and for the price I paid for it, I'm not going to let it just sit there.
