Engraving with Tira - a Beginner's Course for Lettering

We are opening the course that we have been teaching at the Portland Jewelry Academy to all of our customers!

A 16 week on-line course that you can take from home. Tira teaches one live session per week from her state-of-the-art studio, demonstrating techniques using materials we send to you as part of the course. She takes questions on the fly and interacts with students live.

Students are introduced to new skills each week during class, and then Tira offers critiques and suggestions to students through the private chat room established for the class. Every class is recorded, so you have it as a reference, or you can watch any classes at your convenience that you can’t attend live. Classes take place about one hour every Tuesday at 2PM Eastern from July 28 to November 10, 2026 (some times or dates may vary based on scheduling conflicts). In addition, students have access to a private chat room where they can ask questions at any time during the week and receive constructive criticism on their work.

• A comprehensive engraving course using a power-assisted engraving machine
• A course with structure that will encourage them to practice and absorb materials that are taught

• To learn or improve basic engraving skills including sharpening and lettering
• After-course support for up to 12 months to refine skills

Course registrants qualify a $200 discount on a PulseGraver and/or a $200 discount on a Leica microscope. Course discounts are also available for people who already purchased a PulseGraver or a Leica Microscope from us. You do not need to have a PulseGraver to take this course.

Requirements:

• A broadband connected device (smart phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer) If you use a computer, it is strongly recommended to attach a webcam so you can actively participate in the class
• An engraving machine (PulseGraver, GRS, or Lindsay), a ball vise that can hold practice plates, and a sharpening system that can sharpen gravers at precise angles (we encourage you to get the Sharpening System we offer at a discount to students)

Course Includes:

• 16 weeks of live on-line instruction
• Access to private chat group for questions and constructive critiques
• Lasered practice plates, rings, helpful engraving supplies, and a PDF course manual
• Optional HSS Gravers at a discount for the course (students may use their own gravers, but ours are highly encouraged)

• Certificate of Completion for students who complete every lesson and post their work on the chat group
• Discounts on a PulseGraver and Leica Microscope through Engraver.com

Registrants will receive a course kit that contains lasered practice plates, brass practice rings, samples of various supplies Tira uses during the course, and a link to download a PDF of the course manual.

Optional equipment includes several HSS gravers (strongly recommended) and/or our Double Deluxe Sharpening System.
